Unplayable conditions at Port Royal led officials to reduce the Bermuda Championship to 54 holes, leaving Austin Smotherman and Séamus Power tied for the lead.
Raging winds exceeding 40 mph at Port Royal caused the cancellation of Sunday's final round at the Bermuda Championship, forcing a sudden-death playoff between Austin Smotherman and Séamus Power. The two golfers ended 54 holes of play tied for the lead after none of the 72 players who made the cut were able to tee off on Sunday morning. According to the Associated Press, the tournament has been officially shortened to a 54-hole event due to a dire weather forecast.
Smotherman and Power are scheduled to return to the par-3 16th hole at 9 a.m. local time (8 a.m. ET) on Monday to determine a winner, weather permitting. This marks the first time a PGA Tour event has been reduced to 54 holes since the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The most recent Monday finish on the tour occurred in June at the Travelers Championship.
Significant stakes remain for both competitors. A victory for Power would secure his PGA Tour card through 2028 and grant him entry into the elite Championship Series. Smotherman, who earned his first tour title in Utah earlier this month, would qualify for the U.S. Open with a win. Both players are currently scheduled to travel to Vallarta for the Mexico Open following the conclusion of the playoff.
