Billy Horschel Skips BMW PGA Championship to Protect PGA Tour Card

Billy Horschel is currently ranked No. 100 in the FedEx Cup and must remain in the top 100 to keep his full PGA Tour card.

Billy Horschel has withdrawn from the BMW PGA Championship to compete in the inaugural Biltmore Championship Asheville, the first of eight FedEx Cup Fall events. Horschel enters the week ranked No. 100 in the FedEx Cup standings, the final position required to maintain a full PGA Tour card. Failure to finish the season inside the top 100 would result in Horschel losing his full membership for the first time in more than 10 years.

The two-time BMW PGA Championship winner has not recorded a top-10 finish on the PGA Tour this year. After missing five months in 2025 due to hip surgery, his world ranking has dropped to No. 162, down from No. 53 at the start of the season. His current exemption, earned from a 2024 victory in the Dominican Republic, expires at the end of this year.

Horschel is not the only player facing status pressure in North Carolina. Lucas Glover, who joins the PGA Tour policy board next year, currently sits at No. 101 as his three-year winning exemption expires. Christiaan Bezuidenhout occupies the No. 97 spot heading into the Asheville field. Additionally, players are competing to finish in the top 60 to qualify for $20 million signature events at Pebble Beach and Riviera in 2027; Jordan Spieth currently holds the No. 52 position.
