Milwaukee overcame a four-run deficit to beat Los Angeles 6-4 on Thursday, clinching the NLCS in four games.
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday to complete a four-game sweep of the National League Championship Series. Garrett Mitchell provided the decisive margin with a go-ahead solo home run off left-hander Tanner Scott in the sixth inning. David Hamilton added an insurance run with a solo shot against Edwin Diaz in the ninth, while Aaron Ashby earned a three-inning save to secure Milwaukee’s first World Series appearance since 1982.
Los Angeles took an early 4-0 lead behind Shohei Ohtani, who hit a 428-foot three-run homer off righty Dustin May. The Brewers responded by scoring four runs against starter Tyler Glasnow to tie the game. The rally featured back-to-back ground-rule doubles from William Contreras and Jake Bauers, alongside five walks and two stolen bases. Milwaukee out-homered the Dodgers 7-1 throughout the four-game series.
This victory marks the first National League pennant for the Brewers, who were members of the American League during their only previous Fall Classic appearance 44 years ago. The win also makes Milwaukee the first team in postseason history to sweep an opponent that had swept them in the preceding season. Reliever JoJo Romero contributed two scoreless innings to the effort, and Jackson Chourio recorded the final out by catching an Enrique Hernandez fly ball.
The World Series is scheduled to begin on Oct. 23. American Family Field will host the first Fall Classic game in the city of Milwaukee since the franchise's 1982 run led by Robin Yount and Paul Molitor.
