Cam Talbot stopped 20 shots and all three shootout attempts in a 3-2 victory, becoming the first NHL goaltender to win for nine different teams.
Cam Talbot made 20 saves and stopped three consecutive shootout attempts to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night. The 39-year-old netminder became the first goaltender in NHL history to record a win with nine different franchises, surpassing the previous mark of eight held by Curtis McElhinney, Sean Burke, and Ron Tugnutt.
Now in his 13th league season, Talbot previously earned victories for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, and Detroit Red Wings. According to ESPN Research, the win also established Talbot as the oldest goaltender to ever earn a victory in Blue Jackets franchise history.
Columbus coach Rick Bowness described the veteran's performance as outstanding following the shootout result. Talbot noted that his team controlled the pace of the game from start to finish before he sealed the win in the final frame. The Blue Jackets' victory came during Talbot's debut season with the organization.
