Michal Postava stopped 25 shots in regulation and denied three Edmonton attempts in a shootout to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 victory over the Oilers on Monday night. Lucas Raymond recorded a pair of assists before scoring the lone goal of the shootout. The 24-year-old Postava, an undrafted goaltender from Czechia, earned the win in his first career NHL start after previously appearing in relief against Vancouver.
Detroit trailed three separate times before Dylan Larkin forced overtime by shoveling in his second goal of the season with 1:17 remaining in the third period. Viktor Arvidsson and Emmitt Finnie also provided regulation goals for the Red Wings, who finished their four-game road trip with a 2-1-1 record. The Oilers received scoring from Vasily Podkolzin, Isaac Howard, and Colton Dach, but lost forward Zach Hyman to an apparent concussion during the contest.
Connor McDavid recorded an assist to extend his season-opening point streak to 12 games, bringing his league-leading total to 34 points. The helper allowed McDavid to set an Oilers franchise record for points scored before November 1 and tied the NHL record for the longest season-opening assist streak. Despite the milestone, Edmonton has now lost two consecutive games. Postava’s performance included a critical shootout save against McDavid to secure the win at Rogers Place.
