The No. 4-seeded American overcame a 26-minute opening set where Andreeva, the 19-year-old French Open champion, won the first seven points. Gauff eventually forced a second-set tiebreaker, winning a 39-shot rally to lead 5-3 before Andreeva surged to earn two match points. Gauff erased the first opportunity when the Russian hit a forehand long and denied the second at 7-6 to force a deciding set.

This victory marks Gauff’s 90th major match win, tying Chris Evert for the fourth-most by an American woman before age 23 in the Open era. The 22-year-old has now won 11 consecutive matches dating back to her title run in Cincinnati. The result also ensures that all top four seeds have reached the US Open semifinals for just the second time in the Open era, mirroring the 1975 tournament lineup.

Gauff will next face Elena Rybakina, who is guaranteed to become the new WTA world No. 1 following her quarterfinal win over Zheng Qinwen. The other semifinal scheduled for Thursday features top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka against No. 3 Jessica Pegula. Gauff’s comeback was one of six quarterfinal matches to reach a deciding set during the 2026 tournament, tying an Open era record previously shared by the 1980 Australian Open, 2005 US Open, and 2022 Wimbledon.
