The Dallas Cowboys have completed an Osa Odighizuwa trade, sending the defensive tackle to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 third-round draft pick. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer, the deal moves a veteran presence from the interior of the Dallas defensive line to a conference rival. Odighizuwa, 27, arrives in San Francisco following a 2023 campaign where he recorded 3.5 sacks and 44 tackles across 17 games. This transaction marks the end of his five-year tenure with the Cowboys organization, which began when he was selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
In a secondary move, the Cowboys traded defensive lineman Solomon Thomas and a seventh-round pick to the Tennessee Titans. In return, Dallas received a seventh-round selection from Tennessee. Thomas, 30, recorded 27 tackles in 16 games for the Cowboys last season. His move to the Titans reunites him with new head coach Robert Saleh, whom he previously played for during stints with both the 49ers and the New York Jets.
Odighizuwa Career Stats and Contract Details
Over the course of his professional career, Odighizuwa has accumulated 17 sacks and 216 tackles. His consistency on the field led the Cowboys to sign him to a four-year, $80 million contract extension last year. This lucrative deal keeps the defensive tackle under contract through the 2028 season. Financial terms of the agreement include a $16.25 million base salary specifically for the 2026 season, which the 49ers will now manage as part of their defensive payroll.
Impact on the Cowboys Defensive Line
By moving both Odighizuwa and Thomas, the Cowboys are overhauling their defensive front. The departure of Odighizuwa removes a player who has been a staple of the unit since 2021. The 2026 third-round pick acquired from the 49ers provides Dallas with future draft capital while clearing significant long-term salary cap space. The swap of seventh-round picks with the Titans further adjusts the team's late-round assets for upcoming recruitment cycles.
Solomon Thomas Joins the Titans
The acquisition of Solomon Thomas by the Tennessee Titans provides Robert Saleh with a familiar veteran for his defensive rotation. Thomas has extensive experience within Saleh’s system from their shared time in San Francisco and New York. Having appeared in 16 games for Dallas last year, Thomas brings recent durability to a Titans squad looking to bolster its interior presence. This trade involves a direct exchange of seventh-round draft assets between the two franchises to facilitate the veteran's move to Nashville.
