Cris Cyborg (29-2, 1 NC) faces Ketlen Vieira this Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN, aiming for a record-breaking 30th professional MMA victory.
Cris Cyborg enters the PFL cage in Tampa, Florida, this Saturday at 9 p.m. ET to defend her featherweight championship against Ketlen Vieira. The 41-year-old Brazilian pioneer holds a professional record of 29-2 with 1 NC and is pursuing her 30th career victory, a milestone no other female MMA fighter has achieved. This 33rd professional bout serves as the final fight on her current PFL contract. The main card airs on ESPN, following preliminary action starting at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
Cyborg’s resume includes 21 knockouts among her 29 wins, with 12 of those finishes occurring in the opening round. Since a knockout loss to Amanda Nunes in 2018, she has secured nine consecutive victories. Her most recent performance resulted in a submission win over Sara Collins in December, which crowned her the inaugural PFL women’s featherweight champion. That victory established her as the first woman to capture titles in five major promotions: Strikeforce, Invicta FC, the UFC, Bellator MMA, and the PFL.
Career Milestones and Statistical Dominance
After a loss in her 2005 professional debut, Cyborg maintained an unbeaten streak for 13 years across 21 bouts. A signature moment in this run was her 2009 first-round knockout of Gina Carano, marking the first time two women headlined a major MMA event. In 2017, she secured the UFC title and completed two successful defenses before losing the belt. Throughout her career, she has participated in 19 title fights.
Saturday’s challenger, Ketlen Vieira, brings a 16-5 record into her PFL featherweight debut. The 34-year-old Brazilian is currently ranked No. 3 in the ESPN bantamweight rankings. Before her UFC contract expired in May, Vieira earned victories over former champions Holly Holm and Miesha Tate. She also holds the distinction of being the only UFC athlete to go the distance in a fight against current champion Kayla Harrison.
Retirement Speculation and Future Prospects
PFL CEO John Martin described this matchup in June as the conclusion of Cyborg’s career, yet the champion remains undecided. Cyborg stated that her team has prepared for every bout over the last three years as if it were her final appearance. She noted that while legends like BJ Penn lost his final seven fights and Fedor Emelianenko retired at 46, she feels she is performing better at 41 than she did at 21. If she continues, the PFL’s merger with Most Valuable Promotions could offer a path to a sixth promotional title in 2027.
Outside the cage, Cyborg is undefeated in seven professional boxing matches, including five consecutive knockouts. Her transition away from MMA may involve her "Cyborg’s Zoo" project or pursuing veterinary training. Her current collection of animals includes American pit bull terriers named Holly and Canelo, a pig named Manny Porkiao, and parrots named Chael and José. She also manages a ranch in Brazil with cows named Kayla and Ronda.
Personal Transitions and Legacy
Cyborg lives in Southern California and plans to teach martial arts to children both there and in Brazil following her retirement. She is also preparing for a significant family milestone, as her adopted daughter, Gabriela, is due to give birth soon. Cyborg expressed a personal desire to experience pregnancy herself if it aligns with her future.
Regardless of the outcome in Tampa, the fighter intends to leave her moniker behind when she stops competing. She noted that while she is "Cris" in daily life, she becomes "Cyborg" only inside the cage. Upon retirement, she plans to retire the nickname alongside her gloves, ending a two-decade run under the billing. Her opponent, Vieira, has publicly stated, "Saturday is my day," as she looks to disrupt the champion’s pursuit of a 30th win.
