Matheus Cunha scored in the 83rd minute and again in the final 10 minutes to secure a 3-2 victory for Manchester United against AS Roma.
Matheus Cunha scored two late goals to lead Manchester United to a 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma on Tuesday. Trailing 2-0 after 17 minutes at Old Trafford, United initiated a second-half turnaround when Bruno Fernandes converted a retaken penalty in the 57th minute. Fernandes had his initial attempt saved by Devis Vásquez, but referee Jesus Gil Manzano ordered a retake for encroachment. Cunha equalized in the 83rd minute from a Fernandes cross before scoring the winner off an assist from 19-year-old substitute Shea Lacey.
The match ended with Cunha receiving a red card after two bookings. His first yellow card followed a celebration in the stands after his second goal, and he was sent off in stoppage time for a foul on Leonardo Balerdi. Despite playing with 10 men, United secured their first win since Sept. 10, ending a nine-game winless streak for manager Michael Carrick.
The victory was marred by an injury to midfielder Carlos Baleba, who left the pitch in tears with a hamstring injury 37 seconds into the second half. He was replaced by Youri Tielemans. United entered the match already missing Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw. Before kickoff, supporters in the Stretford End protested against the club's ownership by releasing green and gold balloons and throwing tennis balls onto the pitch. Carrick is expected to remain in charge for Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.
