Dylan Garand stopped 19 shots and Tye Kartye scored twice as the New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 on Sunday.

Dylan Garand made 19 saves and Tye Kartye and Will Cuylle each scored two goals as the New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. The victory marks New York’s fifth win in seven games and their fourth consecutive home win to open the season. The Rangers played their first contest since losing starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin to a season-ending right knee injury suffered Friday night in Washington.

Kartye opened the scoring 27 seconds into the first period before Vancouver's Jake DeBrusk tied the game at 17:04. In the second period, Cuylle regained the lead for New York at 2:09, but Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson leveled the score again with a short-handed goal at 16:56. Kartye then secured the game-winning goal at 18:25 of the second frame. Alexis Lafreniere increased the lead to 4-2 with a power-play goal 1:04 into the third period, followed by a Gabe Perreault goal at 5:57 and Cuylle’s second tally with less than five minutes remaining.

Mika Zibanejad and J.T. Miller each recorded two assists during the contest. With his helper on Lafreniere's goal, Zibanejad reached 250 power-play points, joining Brian Leetch and Rod Gilbert as the only Rangers to reach that milestone. Vancouver goaltender Kevin Lankinen finished the night with 19 saves as the Canucks fell to 2-5-0 under new coach Manny Malhotra. Garand, 24, took over as the presumptive starter after being placed on waivers earlier this season, with Spencer Martin serving as his backup.
