Eagles Sign Zach Ertz to Practice Squad as Dallas Goedert Sidelined with MCL Sprain

Philadelphia is signing three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz to the practice squad after Dallas Goedert sustained an MCL sprain during Sunday's win.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing 14-year veteran tight end Zach Ertz to their practice squad, sources told ESPN on Monday. This move follows an MCL sprain sustained by starter Dallas Goedert during the second quarter of Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans. Goedert, who recorded one catch for 4 yards on two targets before exiting, is expected to miss several weeks of play.

Ertz returns to Philadelphia at age 35, having previously spent over eight seasons with the franchise and helping the team secure a Super Bowl title in 2017. He currently sits at 579 career receptions with the Eagles, leaving him 11 catches short of Harold Carmichael’s franchise record. Although he has been recovering from an ACL tear suffered in December, reports indicate the three-time Pro Bowler is now in good health.

The signing addresses a depleted tight end room where rookie second-round pick Eli Stowers is on injured reserve with quad and hamstring issues, and Grant Calcaterra is sidelined by a back injury. These absences left Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins as the only healthy tight ends on the 53-man roster prior to Ertz's addition.

General manager Howie Roseman previously acknowledged ongoing communication with Ertz during his rehabilitation process. The veteran ranks fifth all-time among NFL tight ends with 825 total receptions and eighth at the position with 8,592 receiving yards. Goedert, 31, remains a central part of the offense after a 2025 season in which he set career highs with 60 catches and 11 touchdowns.
