FA Chief Demands Transparency on FIFA World Cup Private Equity Proposal

Debbie Hewitt has called for the release of all files concerning the FIFA Forward Enterprise plan and the overturning of Folarin Balogun's red card.

FA chairwoman and FIFA vice president Debbie Hewitt has demanded that President Gianni Infantino release all background documents regarding a proposal for private investors to buy stakes in the World Cup. According to sources told by ESPN, Hewitt's request for transparency also covers the decision to overturn a one-match suspension for USA forward Folarin Balogun following a red card in the previous summer's tournament.

Infantino was previously forced to withdraw the plan to create FIFA Forward Enterprise, a subsidiary intended to organize future tournaments, following opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation. UEFA vice president Laura McAllister told ESPN that the proposed sell-off "struck at the very heart of the principles of the game."

UEFA has initiated legal action against Infantino, citing concerns over the awarding of World Cups, human rights issues, and the establishment of the FIFA Peace Prize. The FIFA council is scheduled to meet next on Oct. 15 to discuss governance matters. Infantino has confirmed he intends to stand for reelection in 2027 for a further four-year term.
