Substitute Dimitrios Kourbelis secured the victory in the 74th minute with a deflected shot that beat the German defense in Augsburg. The result followed a -1 draw against the Netherlands in Jürgen Klopp's opening match as manager on Thursday.

Germany controlled 77% of possession during the first half according to Opta, but struggled to convert dominance into goals. Karim Adeyemi produced the hosts' best opportunity in the 32nd minute, forcing a save from Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. Despite the territorial advantage, Greece became more threatening in the second period, with Fotis Ioannidis missing a significant chance before Kourbelis eventually broke the deadlock.

Klopp made five changes to his starting lineup for his home debut, later telling broadcaster ARD that the experimental formation and personnel rotations were his responsibility. The manager described the defeat as "part of the process" of rejuvenating the squad. Defender Jonathan Tah, who prevented a separate Greek scoring opportunity during the match, noted that the team failed to perform at the required level but emphasized the need for squad unity.

Germany's schedule continues in Munich this coming Thursday against Serbia. The team will then travel for a reverse fixture against Greece next Sunday. Klopp indicated he intends to continue rotating the squad for these upcoming matches as he works to integrate the group.
