Harry Kane has emerged as the bookmakers' favorite to win the Ballon d'Or this October following a season in which he scored 73 goals for club and country. This total surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s career-best mark of 69 goals in 2011-12 and stands as the second-highest single-season tally ever recorded, trailing only Lionel Messi’s 82 goals in the 2011-12 campaign. The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker described the performance as his best season by far in an interview with ESPN via TNT Sports.

A victory for the England captain would make him the first English player to receive the honor since Michael Owen in 2001. He would join a select group of four previous English winners, including Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, and Kevin Keegan. Kane noted that while he is proud of the achievement, the final outcome now rests with the voters.

Despite his record-breaking output last term, Kane has not scored in Bayern Munich's first two Bundesliga matches of the current season. The German club opened their campaign with a 5-1 victory over Stuttgart followed by a 0-0 draw against Schalke. The striker stated he remains focused on improving his IQ and finishing for the 2026-27 season while acknowledging the significance of being mentioned alongside Messi and Ronaldo.
