Everton secured a 3-1 victory against Newcastle to reach the Carabao Cup quarterfinals while Jack Grealish was made unavailable due to a breach of club discipline.
Everton defeated Newcastle 3-1 on Thursday to advance to a Carabao Cup quarterfinal matchup against fourth-tier Fleetwood Town. Despite the victory, the club made on-loan winger Jack Grealish unavailable for the round of 16 fixture due to what officials termed a "breach of club discipline." According to ESPN, multiple reports indicate the 31-year-old's absence was caused by an unauthorized miss from training.
Manager David Moyes confirmed the omission was a club decision he supported, though he declined to provide further specifics following the match. Grealish had previously missed a 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Saturday, which the club attributed to illness at the time. Tyler Dibling started on the wing against Newcastle in place of Brennan Johnson, who had featured in the prior match alongside Tyrique George.
Currently in his second consecutive loan spell at the Hill Dickinson Stadium from Manchester City, Grealish has failed to record a goal or an assist in seven appearances this season. This follows a previous campaign where he registered two goals and six assists in 20 games before a foot injury ended his season in January. Before his September 1 return to Everton, the winger appeared as a substitute for Manchester City in the Community Shield and a Premier League win over Bournemouth.
