Top-ranked Jannik Sinner announced Tuesday via Instagram that he will miss the remainder of the 2026 season to undergo medical treatment for knee inflammation. The 25-year-old, who has won five Grand Slam titles, has not competed since defeating Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final in July. This decision follows his previous withdrawal from the US Open due to a right knee injury.
According to the Associated Press, Sinner will be absent from the Shanghai Masters, the Paris Masters, and the ATP Finals in November. Additionally, he is ruled out for the Davis Cup Final 8, where he was slated to play for the three-time defending champion Italian team. Management stated the timing of the treatment is intended to allow for recovery before 2027 preparations begin, though Sinner could potentially return for the Australian Open on Jan. 17.
Sinner’s 2026 campaign included a 30-match winning streak that ended during the French Open second round. While sidelined, he risks losing the No. 1 ranking to Alexander Zverev, who won two Grand Slam titles this year. His primary rival, Carlos Alcaraz, also missed 4 ½ months of the current season with a right wrist injury.
