Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will play in Week 5 with a brace after suffering two elbow dislocations in 11 months.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is scheduled to return as a "full go" for Sunday's game against the New York Giants after missing two contests due to a Week 2 elbow dislocation. According to ESPN, Daniels will wear a protective brace for the remainder of the season, a measure deemed a viable option by specialists in Los Angeles and New York. While the third-year star participated fully in practice this week, doctors around the NFL expressed concern that Daniels faces a high risk of suffering another dislocation, noting he has sustained the injury twice within the last 11 months.
Offensive coordinator David Blough stated on Thursday that the team will not limit the game plan for the returning starter. Daniels confirmed he can perform all necessary functions with the brace, including taking snaps from center and handing off the ball. With Marcus Mariota ruled out due to a sprained MCL, rookie Athan Kaliakmanis will serve as the primary backup for Sunday's matchup. Despite the optimism from the coaching staff, some league doctors who have not personally examined Daniels maintain that a third injury is a matter of "when, not if."
