Jaylen Brown scored a season-high 27 points on Saturday night to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 127-116 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, moving the team to a 3-0 record. Following the win, which occurred on Brown’s 30th birthday, the former Boston Celtics guard addressed his relationship with Jayson Tatum, stating there is "no beef" but that Tatum should "stay ready at all times."
The tension follows an offseason trade that sent Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks (2028, 2031), and two second-round selections (2028, 2030). Brown recently challenged Tatum’s claim on YouTube that he was caught off guard by the transaction, responding on social media with a "cap" emoji, a slang term for lying. Tatum stated on Friday that he would welcome a conversation to resolve any issues, though Brown appeared disinterested when asked about a potential meeting.
Brown and Tatum played together in Boston for nine seasons after being selected as consecutive No. 3 overall picks in 2016 and 2017. During their tenure, they reached five Eastern Conference finals and won the 2024 NBA championship against the Dallas Mavericks. Brown earned the 2024 NBA Finals MVP and Eastern Conference Finals MVP honors while averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists during a season where Tatum missed all but 16 games due to an Achilles rupture. The two players are scheduled to face each other for the first time this season on Nov. 10 in Philadelphia.
