Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake compared Justin Herbert's passes to 'throwing deli meat' following the Chargers' 24-9 loss in Week 8.
Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake criticized Justin Herbert’s performance following the Rams' 24-9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8. During an appearance on the "St. Brown Podcast" published Wednesday, Lake stated Herbert was "throwing deli meat out there" and "seeing ghosts." The Rams improved to 4-4 with the win, while the Chargers fell to 0-7 on the season.
Herbert finished the contest with two interceptions, including one caught by Lake. The Chargers offense, led by coordinator Mike McDaniel, failed to score a touchdown for the second consecutive game. Through seven games, Herbert leads the NFL with 10 interceptions and ranks last in the league with a 32.6 QBR. The team currently averages 14.1 points per game, the lowest mark in the NFL, and ranks second to last with 2,018 total yards.
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh addressed Lake's comments on Wednesday afternoon, stating, "I don't see that." While Harbaugh conceded there were two throws Herbert would like to have back, he maintained the quarterback performed his job exceptionally well. Herbert told reporters he had not heard the comments and declined to offer a response. Harbaugh continues to support McDaniel, who joined the staff after being fired by the Miami Dolphins.
