Rahm opened the tournament on Thursday with a 6-over 78, his highest score in a non-major event since the 2021 Andalucia Masters. During Friday's second round, he drove his opening shot at the ninth hole into a bunker, eventually recording five bogeys and a double bogey for a 5-over 77. By the middle of the second round, Rahm sat 21 shots behind clubhouse leaders Adam Scott and Filippo Cello, who both reached 10 under par.

The two-time major champion arrived in Virginia Water, England, following a tie for 23rd at the Irish Open. Rahm is currently a prominent figure in LIV Golf, a circuit that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week reporting debts exceeding $500 million. Court filings identified Rahm as one of the tour's top four creditors.
