Knicks Evaluating Potential White House Visit Following NBA Title

Coach Mike Brown stated on Tuesday that the New York Knicks have not yet determined if they will visit the White House to celebrate their NBA championship.

The New York Knicks are currently weighing whether to become the first NBA champions to visit the White House during the presidency of Donald Trump, according to an Associated Press report. Coach Mike Brown confirmed during the team's first practice on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, that the organization is internally discussing the matter and intends to reach a collective decision. While owner James Dolan previously indicated an invitation would be accepted, no NBA team visited the White House during Trump’s first term or following his 2024 election.

The 2025 champion Oklahoma City Thunder did not attend a ceremony last season, citing scheduling conflicts. Historically, the Boston Celtics initiated this tradition in 1963, and President Barack Obama hosted every champion during his two terms. However, Trump previously rescinded interest in inviting teams during the 2018 Finals after public hesitation from Stephen Curry and LeBron James.

Logistical opportunities for a visit coincide with the Knicks' upcoming road games against the Washington Wizards. Those matchups are scheduled for Dec. 18 and March 16. Despite the ongoing deliberation, Dolan and Trump maintain a close relationship, having sat together at Madison Square Garden during Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
