Liverpool moved to fourth in the Premier League table following a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion featuring an Alexander Isak goal.
Liverpool defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Anfield to secure their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions. Andoni Iraola’s side took the lead through a Pascal Gross own goal before Alexander Isak added a second with what was described as a neat finish. The result moved the Reds into fourth place in the Premier League standings.
Despite the scoreline, Brighton finished the match with a higher expected goals (xG) tally and superior possession statistics. Seagulls manager Fabian Hürzeler noted that his team missed early chances before Liverpool scored and failed to maintain a clean sheet due to lost personal duels and defensive errors. He claimed there was only "one team" that tried to create and win the game during his postmatch press conference.
Liverpool’s defense relied on blocks and box defending from center-backs, as well as full-back Ronald Araujo and Milos Kerkez, to maintain the shutout. Iraola attributed the win to a strong, aggressive start and the team's ability to remain dangerous during transitions. The victory follows a recent Liverpool win against Villarreal.
