Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 to remain top of the Premier League table.

Manchester City defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to maintain a perfect record of seven wins from seven Premier League matches. Erling Haaland scored twice in the victory, bringing his season total to 12 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions. Phil Foden, returning to the starting lineup for the first time since receiving a red card against Manchester United, recorded his first goal since December 2025. This result ensures Enzo Maresca’s side will be top of the table on Monday morning.

Maresca established a new league record as the first manager to win his opening seven Premier League fixtures, surpassing the previous mark shared by Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The victory followed a period where the club was found guilty of multiple financial rule breaches by a three-person independent panel. Despite the off-field verdict and potential points deductions, City has won two of their last three matches, including a win against Liverpool at Anfield and a performance against European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The win was tempered by a series of second-half injuries. Haaland limped off following a challenge with Ipswich defender Jack Clarke, while Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Nico O'Reilly, and Antoine Semenyo were also forced from the field. Maresca confirmed that O'Reilly is dealing with a recurring back issue first sustained against Coventry, though Kovacic, Nunes, and Haaland indicated they felt okay following the match. The status of Semenyo remains uncertain pending further evaluation.
