Luka Doncic recorded 40 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists on Wednesday night to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 116-103 road victory over the Sacramento Kings. The win improved the Lakers to a 7-2 record, while the Kings fell to 1-7. During the second quarter, Doncic sparked an 11-2 run by making jumpers from 16, 27, 29, and 30 feet, helping Los Angeles build a lead that eventually reached 18 points.
Doncic has now scored at least 35 points in six consecutive games, joining Kobe Bryant and Elgin Baylor as the only players in Lakers history to achieve that feat. During this stretch, he posted totals of 52, 41, 37, 45, 42, and 40 points. According to ESPN, Doncic is the first player in NBA history to record six straight games with at least 35 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five made 3-pointers.
This performance marked the sixth straight game in which Doncic scored 20 or more points in the first half, finishing the opening two quarters with 23 points. Only Allen Iverson in 2005 and Doncic himself in 2023 have produced similar first-half scoring streaks in the last 30 seasons. Lakers coach JJ Redick compared the current run to Doncic's March 2024 stretch, where he averaged 37.5 points over 16 games on 49.2% shooting from the field and 39.2% from beyond the arc.
