Manchester United currently sits clear of the relegation zone on goal differential alone during their 14th season without a Premier League title.

Manchester United is currently clear of the relegation zone on goal differential alone as the club enters its 14th season since last winning the Premier League. Following a recent Champions League comeback victory against AS Roma, current manager Michael Carrick faces potential dismissal, which would make his successor the ninth coach to lead the team since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure. Previous managerial departures include Ruben Amorim last January, Erik ten Hag two years ago, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer near Thanksgiving, and Jose Mourinho in December.

Statistical analysis from ESPN suggests that even if United had hired Jurgen Klopp in 2013, the club would likely still have zero Premier League titles in the post-Ferguson era. A hypothetical model adding a "superstar" value of 10 points to every season under Klopp would have raised United’s average yearly total from 66 to 76 points. While this would have improved their average finishing position from 5.3 to 3.8 and increased top-four finishes from six to 10, it would not have overcome the point totals required for a league championship.

The analysis cites a 2025 Sloan Sports Analytics conference study identifying Klopp and Pep Guardiola as the top-performing managers in Europe between 2017 and 2024. However, the report notes that United has only finished at or above its relative revenue ranking once since 2013. The findings suggest that organizational dysfunction, such as the recruitment of players like Julian Brandt over Mohamed Salah, would have limited a top-tier manager's effectiveness within the Old Trafford environment.
