Manchester United reported record full-year revenues of £677.6m ($900m) and an operating profit of £22.6m ($30m) on Wednesday, according to ESPN. Despite these figures, the club's overall annual loss rose to £43m ($57m), up from £33m ($44m) the previous year. Total borrowing also climbed by £95m ($126m) to reach £583m ($773m).
During the summer transfer window, the club spent £155m ($206m) to acquire midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba. CEO Omar Berrada stated that this strategy was executed with "financial sustainability in mind," noting that rivals such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea all had higher expenditures. Specifically, City, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea each spent at least £100m ($133m) on a single player.
Expenditures for the year included £63.5m ($84m) for land intended for a proposed 100,000-seater stadium. The club also paid £8.2m ($11.1m) to former coach Ruben Amorim and his staff following his dismissal in January, though United saved approximately £8.5m ($11.3m) after Amorim joined AC Milan in the summer. Additionally, the club paid down £150m ($199m) from a revolving credit facility between March and June.
