Messi Nets 100th Inter Miami Goal to Secure Campeones Cup Title

Lionel Messi scored his 100th goal for Inter Miami in a 2-0 victory over Cruz Azul to win the Campeones Cup on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading home a lofted cross delivered by Luis Suárez from the right side. The strike marked Messi’s 100th goal for the club in all competitions. Casemiro secured the result later in the match with a second header to finalize the two-goal margin.

The victory occurred in the first match under new head coach Cristian "Kily" González, who arrived from Argentina on Tuesday after the team reached an agreement for him to replace interim coach Guillermo Hoyos on Aug. 27. The win represents the club's latest trophy following their 2023 Leagues Cup title, the 2024 Supporters' Shield, and the 2025 MLS Cup.

Messi reached the 100-goal milestone in 115 games, surpassing the pace he set at Barcelona (188 games) and with the Argentina national team (174 games). His scoring total for Miami includes 76 goals in MLS, 14 in the Leagues Cup, eight in the Concacaf Champions Cup, and one in the FIFA Club World Cup. The Inter Miami captain has now recorded 929 career goals for club and country and currently leads MLS with 19 goals in 22 appearances this season.
