Gabriel recently debuted in the UEFA Youth League for the Under-19s last Thursday, where he scored a hat trick. Following the defeat to Brighton, Carrick emphasized that the club must prioritize the welfare and exposure of the young player. Sources told ESPN that Barcelona and Real Madrid are currently monitoring the standoff, as Gabriel’s possession of an Irish passport allows for a potential move to a European side.

The forward becomes eligible to sign scholarship forms upon his 16th birthday on Oct. 6. While his recent request has created the possibility of a departure next summer, Carrick maintained that the organization is being cautious with the situation to protect the wellbeing of the academy prospect.
