Nikola Jokic reached his 200th career regular-season triple-double in his 814th game during Denver's 104-91 victory against New Orleans.
Nikola Jokic recorded 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Denver Nuggets to a 104-91 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. According to ESPN, Jokic is now one of only two players in NBA history to reach 200 career regular-season triple-doubles, joining the retired Russell Westbrook. Jokic achieved this milestone in 814 games, while Westbrook reached the mark in 1,175 games. The Denver center currently trails Westbrook by 10 triple-doubles for the all-time lead.
Denver never trailed in the contest, opening the first quarter with 62% shooting to build a 37-18 advantage. Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 23 points, including a critical 3-pointer and a driving finger roll after New Orleans cut the lead to 88-83 in the fourth quarter. Aaron Gordon contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Christian Braun and Trevon Brazile added 15 and 11 points respectively. The Nuggets played with a nine-man rotation due to the absences of Cam Johnson, Alpha Diallo, Julian Strawther, and Spencer Jones.
Zion Williamson scored 25 points for the Pelicans, who fell to 0-4 under first-year coach Jamahl Mosley. New Orleans struggled from behind the arc, converting only 7 of 30 3-point attempts for a 23.3% clip. Derik Queen posted 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Jeremiah Fears added 11 points in the loss. The result completed a two-game home-and-home sweep for Denver, following their 23-point comeback victory against the Pelicans on Saturday. Sixteen of Jokic’s career triple-doubles have occurred against New Orleans, his highest total against any single opponent.
