Brewers manager Pat Murphy contacted Brian Cashman to apologize for calling the Yankees a 'horses---' team after Milwaukee's 4-1 World Series clincher.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy told the New York Post's "The Show" podcast on Tuesday that he regrets calling the New York Yankees a "horses--- team" during his team's World Series celebration. The comments occurred at Tropicana Field following Milwaukee’s 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, which secured the first championship in Brewers franchise history. Murphy was recorded on a viral video telling outfielder Jake Bauers to remember his time in New York when "you guys were all playing for yourself."

Murphy stated he contacted Yankees general manager Brian Cashman to explain that he was not specifically targeting the 2026 New York roster. He claimed his remarks were intended to reference high-payroll teams with "high expectation" rather than to slander the organization. The manager noted he was unaware he was speaking into a "hot mic" while celebrating with Bauers on the field.

Bauers, who caught the final out of the World Series, joined the Brewers via a November 2023 trade from the Yankees. During the 2026 season, he posted career highs with a .266 batting average, 26 home runs, and 86 RBIs. He was also named the NLCS MVP after batting .286 with six RBIs in a four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Murphy admitted his rhetoric was part of a season-long running joke regarding Bauers' upcoming free agency and the Brewers' inability to match high-market contracts.
