Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy, a front-runner for his third consecutive NL Manager of the Year award, has led the team to the cusp of a championship.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy is pursuing the first World Series title in franchise history while positioned as the front-runner for his third consecutive NL Manager of the Year award. His leadership style recently included a prank on left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon during a postseason simulated game. Murphy directed Gordon to Section 422 of American Family Field to investigate a "shadowy figure" suspected of spying, which Gordon discovered was a statue of Hall of Fame announcer Bob Uecker.

Player accounts highlight Murphy's direct communication and high standards. Reliever DL Hall and first baseman Jake Bauers noted Murphy’s recent postseason message: "If you're tired, take a nap. If you're weak, get stronger." Pitcher Chad Patrick recalled Murphy openly criticizing his performance in the dugout after a difficult inning against the Chicago Cubs, questioning who was warming up because Patrick had "blew the game."

In contrast to his blunt critiques, Murphy used a positive approach with 21-year-old rookie Luis Lara. Before an at-bat against the Cubs, Murphy provided a motivational pep talk that preceded Lara’s walk-off single. Conversely, Murphy previously warned Andrew Vaughn he would tase him if he were thrown out at third base, a comment Murphy also applied to other players in similar base-running situations.

General Manager Matt Arnold stated that Murphy’s methods are designed to set high standards for the dugout. While some players have been moved from the roster due to an inability to handle this environment, the current team has improved annually under Murphy’s tenure. Pitcher Shane Drohan noted that despite Murphy claiming a pre-playoff meeting would be the team's last, they have held three additional meetings since that statement.
