Jessica Pegula addressed the accidental livestreaming of her private practice session remarks where she criticized world No. 3 Mirra Andreeva.

World No. 5 Jessica Pegula told ESPN on Friday that her unknowingly recorded remarks regarding Mirra Andreeva were an "unfortunate situation." During a practice session in Indian Wells, California, with coach Mark Knowles, Pegula called the reigning French Open champion a "diva" and criticized the world No. 3's attitude. The conversation was broadcast live on the WTA’s YouTube account because of what officials described as technical failures.

WTA chairperson Valerie Camillo apologized to Pegula and Knowles during a news conference at the WTA Finals, citing a lack of clear signage and advanced notice regarding recording equipment. Camillo stated the organization intended to capture ambient sound rather than private conversations, blaming "several breakdowns" in monitoring for the gaffe. The video has since been removed from the platform after going viral.

Pegula, a member of the WTA Player Council, confirmed the matter has been handled privately. She noted that player privacy is an ongoing concern following similar incidents involving other top-ten athletes. In January, world No. 4 Coco Gauff was filmed smashing a racket at the Australian Open in a supposedly private area, while world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka was recorded in a player gym following her 2023 US Open final loss. World No. 9 Iga Swiatek previously compared the constant surveillance of players to being "animals in a zoo."

The WTA Finals, featuring the top eight singles players, is scheduled to begin Sunday and run through Nov. 15.
