Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton confirmed Friday they will not return for the LIV Golf reboot, with Hatton scheduled for the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship in November.
Ian Poulter and Tyrrell Hatton announced Friday they will not participate in LIV Golf 2.0. Hatton, currently ranked 26th in the Official World Golf Ranking, is scheduled to compete in the DP World Tour's Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship from Nov. 5-8. The 35-year-old previously won LIV Golf events in Nashville and Spain during the 2024 season as a member of Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team.
Poulter, the 50-year-old former co-captain of Majesticks GC, cited a desire to focus on senior golf and reduce international travel as reasons for his departure. The 12-time DP World Tour winner recently missed the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in his first start on that circuit in three years. While Poulter paid approximately $1.1 million in fines to regain DP World Tour membership eligibility this November, a 2017 regulation regarding membership lapses renders him ineligible to serve as a Ryder Cup captain or vice captain.
Several other golfers are also exiting the league, including Lucas Herbert, Tom McKibbin, and Branden Grace, all of whom intend to play on the DP World Tour in 2027. They join a group of players who have recently reached separation agreements or indicated they will not return, including two-time major champion Jon Rahm, Louis Oosthuizen, Charles Howell III, Thomas Pieters, David Puig, Abraham Ancer, and Adrian Meronk.
