The Nashville Predators acquired center Shane Wright from the Seattle Kraken on Sunday in exchange for forward Matthew Wood. This one-for-one trade involves two young players who were high first-round selections; Wright was taken fourth overall in 2022, while Wood was the 15th pick in 2023.

Wright, 22, arrives in Nashville having recorded four points through 14 games this season. During the 2024-25 campaign, he posted career highs of 19 goals and 44 points in 77 games, though his production fell to 12 goals and 27 points the following year. The two-way center was originally drafted by Seattle to anchor the middle of the lineup alongside 2023 Calder Trophy winner Matthew Beniers.

Wood moves to the Kraken after totaling one goal and three points in 14 games to start the current season. As a rookie in 2025-26, he produced 17 goals and 30 points across 71 contests. The trade occurs as Seattle (8-5-1) holds third place in the Pacific Division, while Nashville (5-4-5) sits directly behind the St. Louis Blues for the final Western Conference wild-card position.
