Rafael Jodar reached the Shanghai Masters semifinals by defeating Casper Ruud 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, marking his fourth consecutive comeback victory.
Rafael Jodar became the youngest semifinalist in Shanghai Masters history on Friday after defeating Casper Ruud 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. The 20-year-old Spaniard secured the victory in 2 hours and 20 minutes, converting five break points across the final two sets. This result marked Jodar's fourth straight match at the ATP Masters 1000 event where he successfully rallied after losing the opening set.
Jodar will next face Daniil Medvedev, who advanced with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win over American Tommy Paul. Medvedev, a former champion of the tournament, required 2 hours and 9 minutes to complete his victory. While Medvedev struggled in the second set, he noted an improvement in his serving during the third set to close out the match.
During his quarterfinal, Jodar cited Ruud's serve as a primary obstacle in the first set, preventing him from capitalizing on early break point opportunities. The upcoming semifinal matchup between Jodar and Medvedev was confirmed following the conclusion of Friday's play in Shanghai.
