Rafael Márquez Recalls Hirving Lozano for Mexico Friendly Against Colombia

Hirving Lozano returns to the Mexico national team for the first time since November 2025 as Rafael Márquez prepares for his debut as head coach.

Mexico head coach Rafael Márquez has recalled Hirving "Chucky" Lozano for a friendly against Colombia this Saturday, marking the winger's first international involvement since a match against Uruguay in November 2025. Lozano, who was omitted from the 2024 World Cup roster, recently joined the LA Galaxy on loan and has recorded one goal and one assist across eight appearances. Márquez described the 31-year-old as a "difference-maker" during a Friday news conference ahead of his first game since succeeding Javier Aguirre.

The roster for the upcoming international window includes new call-ups Hugo Camberos and Santiago Sandoval from Chivas, though Mexico will be without forward Raúl Jiménez and Ballon d'Or nominee Julián Quiñones due to injury. Márquez indicated that the team's tactical foundation will remain similar to the side that lost 3-2 to England in the World Cup round of 16. The coach noted that Mexico has failed to defeat Colombia in their last six meetings.

Following the Saturday clash with Colombia, Mexico is scheduled to play Peru on Tuesday, the United States on October 3, and Chile on October 6. Márquez previously served as an assistant to Aguirre, who recently departed the national team to manage Spanish club Valencia.
