Tampa Bay secured a 7-3 win in ALCS Game 4 after a seventh-inning error by Chase DeLauter allowed three runs to score.
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 on Saturday to even the American League Championship Series at 2-2. Entering the seventh inning trailing 2-1 with runners on second and third, Tampa Bay capitalized on a fielding error by right fielder Chase DeLauter. DeLauter misplayed a Jonathan Aranda single, allowing the ball to roll under his glove. This miscue resulted in two runs scoring and permitted Aranda to reach third base.
Aranda subsequently scored on a sacrifice fly by Chandler Simpson, extending the Rays' lead to four runs. While Cleveland responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to narrow the deficit, Tampa Bay added two insurance runs in the ninth inning to secure the four-run victory. Manager Stephen Vogt noted the ball appeared to snake or skip past DeLauter during the pivotal play. The series remains in Cleveland for the next matchup.
