Real Madrid confirmed the signing of 19-year-old Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a total package worth €140 million.
Real Madrid have finalized the acquisition of 19-year-old Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a transaction that could reach €140 million ($161m). The Spanish club confirmed the teenage star has committed to a seven-year contract at the Santiago Bernabéu. According to sources, the financial structure of the agreement includes a guaranteed €125 million ($144m) base fee. An additional €10 million is designated for easily-achievable performance bonuses, while a further €5 million is tied to more difficult milestones. Should these incentives be met, the total cost will surpass the previous club record fees paid for Jude Bellingham in 2023 and Eden Hazard in 2019.
Diomande arrives in Madrid following a standout 2025-26 campaign in Germany’s Bundesliga, where he recorded 12 goals and eight assists. His performances helped RB Leipzig secure a third-place finish in the league table and earned him the title of Bundesliga Rookie of the Season. The Ivorian international further elevated his profile during the recent World Cup, where he helped Ivory Coast advance to the round of 32. The transfer was finalized after the player departed Leipzig's preseason training camp on Thursday morning to complete a medical examination in Spain.
Rapid Rise from Florida to Madrid
Diomande’s ascent to the elite level of European football occurred within a two-year window. As recently as 2024, the attacker was playing at the DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. He subsequently moved to Spanish side Leganés, initially joining their reserve squad. After demonstrating significant potential within a few months, he was sold to RB Leipzig in July 2025 for a fee of €20 million. His rapid development in Germany made him one of the most sought-after talents in the world, attracting heavy interest from Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League clubs before he chose to join the LaLiga giants.
Mourinho’s Summer Reinforcements
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is overseeing a significant squad overhaul following two seasons without a major trophy. Diomande is the latest addition in a high-spending summer window that has already seen the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and Carlos Espí. The club is also reportedly making progress on a new contract for forward Vinícius Júnior. The influx of talent is part of a strategic push to reclaim the LaLiga title under Mourinho’s leadership.
Agent Details and Transfer Negotiations
Negotiations for the 19-year-old were reportedly close to completion last week, but the final announcement was delayed as RB Leipzig and Real Madrid ironed out specific deal details. Nathan Campbell, head of global football recruitment at Roc Nation Sports International and Diomande’s representative, noted that playing for Madrid was the player's primary career objective. Campbell stated that in early discussions, Diomande identified the Spanish side as his dream club, leading to an immediate acceptance once the interest became formal. The deal was officially announced at 10:36 AM ET on August 6, 2026.
