He confirmed to reporters that the prospect of competing on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour no longer provides the same motivation as it once did. He described his professional focus as something that "ebbs and flows," noting that he reached a decision last year to prioritize other aspects of his life over a dense playing calendar.

Friction with Bryson DeChambeau

On Saturday, the tournament atmosphere grew tense as McIlroy commented on a rules violation involving Bryson DeChambeau. The American golfer received a two-shot penalty for improving his lie by trampling long grass near his ball, an infraction McIlroy labeled as "pretty obvious." The world No. 2 did not hide his lack of affection for DeChambeau, explicitly stating he is "not particularly fond of" him. He further criticized the American's actions as "performative," specifically citing DeChambeau's arguments with officials and his decision to hit balls on the practice range after dark.

Despite these personal criticisms, McIlroy acknowledged the commercial value of his rival's presence in international fields. When asked about the possibility of DeChambeau playing in the Irish Open this September, the Northern Irishman responded that such an appearance would be "great for the tournament."
