Sabalenka and Pegula to Meet in US Open Semifinals Following Three-Set Victories

Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the US Open semifinals with a 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) win over Linda Noskova, setting up a match against Jessica Pegula.

No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula will meet in the US Open semifinals on Thursday. Sabalenka advanced by defeating Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7), sealing the match with a second-serve ace in a 10-point tiebreak. Pegula secured her spot by overcoming Emma Navarro 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, marking her 50th win of the season.

Sabalenka reached her sixth consecutive semifinal in New York despite trailing 4-2 in the deciding set against Noskova. Prior to that quarterfinal, the two-time defending champion had not dropped a set or played a match lasting over 89 minutes during the tournament. In her fourth-round victory over Taylor Townsend, Sabalenka recovered after being broken three times in her first four service games.

Pegula reached the penultimate round after overcoming early deficits in multiple matches. She recovered from a 6-1 opening set loss against Leylah Fernandez to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. In her quarterfinal against Navarro, Pegula recorded five double faults and lost an early break in the third set before winning four consecutive games to close out the match. Earlier in the tournament, she defeated Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-1.

Sabalenka holds a 9-4 career head-to-head advantage over Pegula, including a victory in the 2024 US Open final and a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in the 2025 semifinals. Their four most recent meetings have all required three sets. Pegula’s last victory in the rivalry occurred at the Berlin Open in June, where she recorded a 6-0 score in the deciding set.
