Snedeker Wary of U.S. Dominance Entering Presidents Cup at Medinah

U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker warned his team that their historical dominance is the 'elephant in the room' as they prepare for the Presidents Cup at Medinah.

U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker is challenging his roster to ignore a historical record that includes only one loss in the last 26 years as the Presidents Cup begins at Medinah. The American team features 10 players ranked inside the world's top 25, led by world No. 28 Patrick Cantlay and 21-year-old rookie Jackson Koivun. Koivun, the top-ranked amateur who won in his third PGA Tour start, is the first player since 2013 to start a season without a tour card and finish it on a Presidents Cup roster.

International captain Geoff Ogilvy leads a team that has never won on American soil and features British Open winner Ryan Fox, who secured his major title with a final-hole birdie. The International squad is anchored by world No. 14 Si Woo Kim, the first player to earn $10 million in a season without a victory, and 46-year-old Adam Scott, who is making a record-tying 12th appearance. Scott has not been on a winning team since his debut ended in a tie in 2003.

The competition will be held on a Medinah course renovated by Ogilvy’s design company, OCM. While the International team seeks its first victory since a 1998 win in Australia, Snedeker dismissed the idea of using the event as a training session for the 2027 Ryder Cup, stating his objective is to field the best 12 players to maintain the current U.S. winning streak.
