U.S. Team Secures 11th Consecutive Presidents Cup With Sunday Singles Rout

The United States won nine of 12 singles matches at Medinah to secure a 17-13 victory over the Internationals.

The United States secured its 11th consecutive Presidents Cup title on Sunday, defeating the International team 17-13 at Medinah. Entering the final day facing a three-point deficit, the Americans won nine of the 12 singles matches and halved another to complete the largest Sunday rout in the tournament's history. Jacob Bridgeman delivered the clinching point by sinking a three-foot par putt on the 18th hole to defeat Min Woo Lee 1-up, reaching the 15½ points required for the trophy.

Twenty-one-year-old rookie Jackson Koivun sparked the rally by overcoming a 2-down deficit through 10 holes against Si Woo Kim. Koivun won three consecutive holes on the back nine and finished with a 2-up victory. Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa also erased a deficit on the back nine to contribute to the U.S. total. Other American singles winners included Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Chris Gotterup, and Patrick Cantlay, the latter of whom holed a 60-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole to defeat Adam Scott.

U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker noted that the team matches over the first three days saw the Americans outplayed before the final day turnaround. The International team, captained by Geoff Ogilvy, remains with only one historical victory in the event, occurring in 1998. The competition will return to Kingston Heath in Australia in two years.
