Trae Young recorded 23 points and 10 assists in his first game playing in Atlanta as a visitor, though the Washington Wizards lost 139-132.
The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Washington Wizards 139-132 on Friday night, completing a sweep of a home-and-home series this week. Trae Young, playing his first game in Atlanta since being traded to Washington in January, finished with 23 points and 10 assists. Despite the double-double, Young committed a season-high eight turnovers against his former team.
Young entered the contest as the NBA’s leader in assists, averaging 9.3 per game. Before tipoff, the four-time All-Star shared a pregame embrace with Hawks coach Quin Snyder. Young spent over seven seasons in Atlanta, where he became the franchise's all-time leader in 3-pointers and assists before he was dealt to the Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.
Although Young returned to Atlanta last season following the trade, a knee injury prevented him from playing in that matchup. During the second quarter of Friday's game, the Hawks aired a tribute video for the guard, who responded by gesturing a heart with his hands toward the crowd. Wizards coach Brian Keefe noted before the game that Young has fully embraced his new role, emphasizing his efforts to put teammates in better scoring positions.
