U.S. Ryder Cup Team Announces New 2027 Qualifying Criteria Based Solely on Single-Year Points

For the 2027 matches at Adare Manor, the U.S. team will determine its top six automatic qualifiers based only on points earned during the 2027 calendar year.

The U.S. Ryder Cup team will determine its roster for the 2027 matches in Ireland based exclusively on points earned during the 2027 season. According to an Associated Press report, this marks the third consecutive change to the qualifying system. The points window begins at The American Express in California and concludes at the BMW Championship held at Liberty National in New Jersey. The top six players on the final points list will earn automatic spots, while Captain Jim Furyk will select six additional players following the Tour Championship.

The new structure replaces the previous system tied to PGA Tour earnings with a specific points distribution list. Major championship winners will receive 3,000 points, while The Players Championship winner earns 2,850. Victors at signature events and the two postseason tournaments will be awarded 2,250 points, and regular PGA Tour event winners receive 1,500. No points will be distributed for performances in opposite-field events.

The 2027 Ryder Cup is scheduled for Sept. 17-19 at Adare Manor. The U.S. squad will face a European team led by Luke Donald, who is seeking to become the first captain to win three consecutive matches after Europe's victories in the last two meetings.
