White Sox Grab Early Lead as They Seek Sweep of Guardians

Kyle Teel hit an RBI double in the first inning to give the Chicago White Sox a 1-0 lead over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel doubled in the first inning of Game 3 to drive in the game's opening run against the Cleveland Guardians. The White Sox entered the matchup on Oct. 7, 2026, leading the American League Division Series 2-0 and looking to clinch a postseason round at home for the first time since the 1906 World Series. Left-hander Sean Newcomb started on the mound for Chicago against Cleveland opener Daniel Espino.

Cleveland’s lineup for the elimination game featured Steven Kwan in center field and Jose Ramirez at third base, though reports indicated Ramirez was playing at less than 100% health. The Guardians' offense struggled for production early after managing few runs in the first two games of the series. Chicago's batting order featured Sam Antonacci as the designated hitter and Munetaka Murakami at first base.

The day's playoff slate includes three other matchups. The Atlanta Braves host the Los Angeles Dodgers at 6 p.m. ET, with Tyler Mahle facing Tyler Glasnow. Atlanta trails the series and seeks to force a Game 4. At 8 p.m. ET, the Tampa Bay Rays, holding a 2-0 lead, face the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Max Fried starts for New York against Nick Martinez as the Yankees attempt to improve on a franchise-low five hits through the first two games of a postseason series. Finally, the San Diego Padres start Walker Buehler against Robert Gasser and the Milwaukee Brewers at 10 p.m. ET.
