Zack Wheeler Records 2,000th Career Strikeout as Phillies Beat Brewers 6-4

Zack Wheeler became the 96th pitcher in MLB history to reach 2,000 career strikeouts during a 6-4 Philadelphia Phillies victory.

Zack Wheeler struck out 11 batters, including the first seven hitters he faced, as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-4 on Tuesday night. Wheeler reached the 2,000 career strikeout milestone by fanning Brice Turang to end the first inning. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the only Phillies pitcher since 1900 to open a game with seven consecutive strikeouts. His streak ended in the third inning when Cooper Pratt grounded out to third base.

Bryson Stott broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning with a two-out single to center field off Colton Gordon (0-1). During the play, a throw by Garrett Mitchell struck Alec Bohm’s foot, allowing both Bohm and Luis Arraez to score. Brandon Marsh contributed a home run, a double, and three RBIs to the Philadelphia offense. Jose Alvarado (5-3) recorded the final out of the eighth inning to earn the win, while Jhoan Duran secured his 33rd save.

The victory moves Philadelphia to an 87-70 record, placing them in a three-way tie with the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres for the National League wild-card spots. The Phillies currently sit four games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks with five games remaining in the regular season. Despite the loss, Milwaukee clinched a first-round bye and home-field advantage for the division series following a loss by Atlanta. William Contreras drove in three runs for the Brewers, who saw their record move to 13-6 for the month of September.
