2026 World Baseball Classic: Official Venues and Tournament Structure

The World Baseball Classic returns in March 2026 across four iconic locations, featuring 20 national teams competing for the global title.

The 2026 World Baseball Classic officially commences in March 2026, utilizing four primary host cities: Miami, Houston, San Juan, and Tokyo. loanDepot park in Florida serves as the central hub, hosting games in every round, including the championship final. Minute Maid Park in Texas joins the rotation for the first time, while Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico returns to the tournament schedule for the first time since 2013. The Tokyo Dome in Japan maintains its streak as a consistent venue for Asian bracket play, ensuring a global distribution of the opening rounds.

Sixteen nations have already secured their positions based on their performance in the 2023 tournament. These automatic qualifiers include the United States, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Italy, Australia, the Netherlands, Canada, Great Britain, the Dominican Republic, Korea, the Czech Republic, Panama, and Israel. The remaining four spots in the 20-team field will be determined through qualifying tournaments held in late 2025. This structure ensures that the top finishers from the previous cycle remain the foundation of the competitive pool.

Pool A competition takes place at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, featuring teams like Puerto Rico and Canada. Pool B will be contested at the Tokyo Dome, where the defending champions, Japan, will begin their title defense. Pool C is scheduled for Minute Maid Park, marking the debut of Houston as a World Baseball Classic host site. Finally, Pool D will occupy loanDepot park in Miami, which previously set attendance records during the 2023 final between Japan and the United States. Each group consists of five teams playing a round-robin format to determine who advances to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal round is split between Houston and Miami. Minute Maid Park will host the top two teams from Pools A and B, while loanDepot park will welcome the leaders from Pools C and D. Following these knockout matches, the tournament shifts exclusively to Miami for the semifinals and the final. This marks the first time a single venue has been designated to host the concluding three games of the tournament in consecutive cycles. The championship game is expected to draw a capacity crowd exceeding 36,000 spectators, mirroring the sell-out figures seen in the previous iteration.

Statistically, the 2023 tournament saw a total attendance of 1,306,414 fans, a 20% increase over the 2017 event. Organizers anticipate the 2026 edition will surpass these figures due to the expanded capacity of the Houston and Miami venues. Television viewership also reached historic highs in the last cycle, with the final game drawing a 42.4 rating in Japan. The inclusion of MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout in the previous final has set a high bar for roster expectations in 2026. National federations must submit their provisional rosters by early 2026, adhering to strict pitch count regulations designed to protect professional arms during the spring training window.
