Forward Maddie DiMaria joins Angel City FC after setting a World Cup record with 12 goals for the U.S. Under-17 team.
Angel City FC announced on Thursday the signing of U.S. Under-17 forward Maddie DiMaria to a contract running through 2030. DiMaria, who previously committed to the University of North Carolina, is eligible to debut in Saturday’s NWSL quarterfinal match against the No. 4 seed Kansas City Current. Although the signing was announced on Nov. 7, ESPN confirmed the agreement occurred prior to the league’s Oct. 8 roster freeze.
DiMaria arrives at the club after scoring 12 goals during the ongoing U17 World Cup, the highest total ever recorded by a player of any nationality or age level in a single World Cup tournament. Her performance included a six-goal effort in a 17-0 victory over Samoa and the game-winning strike during a round-of-16 upset against Spain. Despite her record-setting production, the United States was eliminated by North Korea in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Angel City enters the postseason as the No. 5 seed and maintains a 10-game unbeaten streak. Sporting director Mark Parsons noted that DiMaria, a likely Golden Boot winner for the U17 tournament, previously integrated with the roster during training sessions held over the summer.
