Jared Bednar, the winningest coach in Avalanche history with 445 career victories, has signed a four-year extension to remain in Colorado through 2030-31.
The Colorado Avalanche signed coach Jared Bednar to a four-year contract extension on Wednesday, securing his position through the 2030-31 season. Bednar was previously entering the final year of his existing deal for the 2026-27 campaign. The winningest coach in franchise history holds a career record of 445-262-75 and led the team to a Stanley Cup title in 2021-22.
General manager Joe Sakic announced the deal following a 2025-26 season in which Colorado set a franchise record with 121 points before being swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference finals. Bednar has guided the club to the postseason in eight of his nine years behind the bench. He currently trails only Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning as the second-longest tenured head coach in the NHL.
The extension comes as the Avalanche prepare to open their regular season Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Kings. During his tenure, Bednar has managed a core roster featuring Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and captain Gabriel Landeskog. Sakic noted in a statement that the move ensures stability while the team's current core group remains intact.
