BC Partners has withdrawn its $300 million investment in LIV Golf 2.0 after marquee players including Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia declined to commit for 2027.
BC Partners has withdrawn its planned $300 million investment in LIV Golf 2.0, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. The London-based firm intended to replace Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) as the primary financier, but opted to pull out when marquee golfers failed to commit to the 2027 season. While approximately 30 players had pledged to compete, top stars including Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, and Ian Poulter announced they would instead play on the DP World Tour next year.
The league, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 8, reported assets between $100 million and $500 million against liabilities ranging from $500 million to $1 billion. Court records indicate that LIV Golf paid $15.6 million in retention payments to top executives this year, including nearly $6.4 million to CEO Scott O’Neill. Former commissioner Greg Norman received more than $9.4 million upon his departure in September 2025. The PIF previously invested over $5 billion into the circuit since its 2022 launch, which featured $30 million tournament purses.
A hearing is scheduled for Thursday with U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Michael B. Kaplan to discuss the league's potential liquidation. The withdrawal follows a statement from DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings, who noted the tour would refuse membership to golfers signed with LIV 2.0. With the new iteration of the league expected to feature only 10 events, players faced a November 16 deadline to apply for DP World Tour membership.
